The elongated reclining image and the temple's external tower belong to different aspects of its visual identity.

The temple is associated with the Divya Desams and the Tamil Alvar devotional tradition. Kerala Tourism's historical account also connects the present structure with renovation under Marthanda Varma of Travancore. The literary, royal and architectural strands each explain a different part of its significance.
The annual cycle includes Alpasi and Painkuni festivals. Kerala Tourism describes flag hoisting and processional observances and draws attention to murals and works in stone and bronze. The site is therefore a setting for an ongoing religious life, not simply the location of a treasury.
For a small image, decide whether the subject is the reclining deity or the building. A standing Vishnu cannot be captioned as an exact rendering of the sanctum's distinctive form. Equally, a temple facade does not reproduce the experience of viewing the image within. The fuller story can explain the relationship without forcing all its elements into one crowded composition.
