Jesus Christ
Christian representations of Jesus can focus on different moments or themes: childhood, teaching, suffering or resurrection. The title attached to an image matters. The Gospel of John's resurrection account, for example, moves from the empty tomb to encounters with Mary of Magdala and the disciples. An image of the risen Christ belongs to that narrative setting rather than to the Nativity.
Jesus Christ: one subject, several kinds of image
Indian Christian art has its own material history. An eighteenth-century Good Shepherd in the Metropolitan Museum is attributed to Goa or Diu. Another Indo-Portuguese carving, dated to the seventeenth or eighteenth century, shows the Christ Child as a shepherd seated on a rocky height. The museum also records a seventeenth-century Christ Child as Salvator Mundi made in Goa. These are examples of particular artworks, not one prescribed Indian appearance for Jesus.
The variety encourages closer looking. A sheep, a gesture, an orb or a cross can change the subject from a general portrait into a named theme. Read the museum or church caption before assuming that every child figure illustrates Christmas, or that every adult portrait represents the same episode.
The catalogue name 'Jesus Christ' is deliberately broader than any one of those themes. A full account of a chosen image should say which theme it follows and where its reference comes from. That gives a family a clear connection to a story instead of an unexplained portrait.

Start with the person receiving the gift and the story you want it to hold. A family reference, the exact name of a place or a short account of the occasion gives the enquiry a useful beginning.
