The teacher and the confluence
Karnataka Tourism describes Kudalasangama at the meeting of the Krishna and Malaprabha rivers and associates it with Basavanna, the twelfth-century reformer and philosopher. It presents the place as important to the Lingayat community and identifies the related memorial and temple setting.
A sacred account of aikya should be described as part of the tradition. The location, the teacher and an associated temple are connected subjects, but a design should not confuse them or claim to settle wider questions of religious identity.
The meeting of rivers as a way into the place
Karnataka Tourism places Kudalasangama at the confluence of the Krishna and Malaprabha. It distinguishes Basavanna’s samadhi from the Sangameshwara temple within the setting and presents the Basava Museum as another way to explore the movement’s heritage. These are connected points of interest, not interchangeable names for one object.
A landscape view can make the meeting of waters the centre of a composition; a portrait can focus on the teacher.
