This wider visual vocabulary supplies a useful way to look at a star composition: identify its central shape, the repeated units and the way the pattern meets its boundary.
A single star on a round face can isolate one element that would appear within a much larger architectural or decorative field. That change of scale is part of the contemporary design problem. The heritage reference can prompt further reading, while the object's own identity remains a new interpretation.
