Rajasthan Tourism’s Sambhar brochure places the Shakambhari shrine near a rocky outcrop at Sirthula beside the lake. It identifies the goddess as a tutelary deity of the Chauhans and relates a local story about precious metal becoming salt.

In that story, the people fear conflict over a landscape transformed into wealth and ask the goddess to change her gift. Salt replaces the precious metal. Read as a legend, the account gives the familiar lake a moral and devotional setting; it is not an explanation of the lake’s geology.

The state’s Shekhawati tourism page describes another Shakambhari temple in an Aravalli basin near Sikar and notes Navratri visits.
