Rumtek Monastery

Sikkim's Ecclesiastical Department describes Old Rumtek Gonpa separately from the Dharma Chakra Centre. It dates the older foundation to 1734 and associates it with Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal. The older institution's account also records later rebuilding, so the founding date is not the age of every visible part.

The distinction is useful when reading photographs or family travel notes. Both can be called Rumtek, but they are not the same building. Naming the intended site gives a reader a clearer starting point than a generic monastery caption.

The state account relates the newer centre's architecture to Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet. It also describes a golden stupa containing relics of the sixteenth Karmapa and images of lineage teachers. These are features of an active religious setting, not interchangeable decorative objects.

A broad architectural view and a close image of sacred art therefore ask different things of a design. Colour, proportion and placement can carry meaning in the original setting. A monochrome relief should be reviewed for what it preserves and what it leaves out.

A Kagyu Office report from 2013 records the inauguration of a new Rumtek retreat centre at Martam, naming it Drub De Yid Wong Sam Ten Ling. It describes prayers led by Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche, support for the project and participation by students from several local educational institutions.

As a dated institutional account, it offers a glimpse of learning, retreat and community relationships around Rumtek. It is not a current timetable or a statement about every present arrangement. The report helps a reader look beyond the best-known building towards the activities that give an institution purpose.

Begin with the actual place or artwork the recipient values. A remembered visit can be expressed through a place name and personal year, while a longer note can explain the connection. A sacred figure should be identified separately rather than chosen merely because it appears Buddhist.

Confirm permission for the reference, verify any Tibetan text and review the proposed finish at its real size. A privately commissioned object is not automatically a monastery issue or a consecrated object. The final quotation should describe the product and its presentation without suggesting an undocumented institutional relationship.
