Takht Sri Patna Sahib

SGPC's account of Guru Gobind Singh places his birth as Gobind Rai in Patna in 1666. It identifies the site of his birthplace and early childhood home with the present Takht Sri Harimandar Sahib. His father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was travelling in eastern India during this period.

The connection makes Patna part of the geography of Sikh beginnings, rather than a distant addition to a story told only through Punjab. A visitor encounters a place where the memory of childhood remains connected with the later life of the tenth Guru.

Bihar Tourism identifies Patna Sahib as one of the five Sikh Takhts, or seats of authority. SGPC similarly describes its religious standing. The full name therefore conveys an institutional role as well as the location of a building.

It is distinct from Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. Similar words in their names should not blur their separate identities. Keeping Patna in the caption, inscription and reference helps a reader understand which place is being remembered.

Bihar Tourism's illustrated account connects an earlier rebuilding with Maharaja Ranjit Singh and describes damage in the 1934 earthquake followed by twentieth-century reconstruction. The present structure should therefore not be described as an unchanged building from Guru Gobind Singh's childhood.

Its domes, arched façades and marble surfaces can be appreciated as the result of continuing care. A photograph records one view of that inheritance. The people maintaining, visiting and praying at the site are also part of its life, even when a keepsake focuses on architecture.

The state's brochure introduces nearby Gurdwara Bal Lila Maini Sangat through traditions of the young Gobind Rai and the household of Raja Fateh Chand. It also describes Gurdwara Gae Ghat in connection with Guru Nanak's visit. These are separate places with their own associations.

Reading about the surrounding gurdwaras opens a wider view of Patna's Sikh heritage. Their stories need not all be compressed into the main Takht's description or a single crowded design. A card can identify the particular memory a family wishes to share.

Begin with a reference of Patna Sahib itself and decide which architectural forms need to remain legible at the finished diameter. A visit year or family dedication may be enough additional wording. Review the exact inscription, image permission and finished proof before manufacture.

A private commission does not establish that the Takht issued or endorsed the object. If an official commemorative issue is wanted, that provenance needs separate confirmation. The purpose of this enquiry is to discuss a clearly described, independently commissioned keepsake.
